Awww I'm sorry to hear about that T.T I hope everything works out for you too.
I miss the waldenbooks in our local mall as well... (it got replaced with an "urban" book store...sold nothing I was interested in. bah) btw. have you tried Barnes & Noble? it seems like a good place if your looking for jobs dealing with books and stuff :3
I know the feeling. My local Waldenbooks closed years ago... I met one of my best friends there and pretty much every book I own is from that one store...
The closure of the Borders company is effecting us as well. My mother and sister are huge Bibliophiles... I'm not as bad, I just collected manga and the occasional rare novel.
I think it stems from the new trend of e-books. Once e-books came to light, sales of real books went down, thus everyone in the writing world is suffering greatly, save the authors that have switched successfully to selling e-books.
Kind of makes me wonder what to do for myself as an aspiring author. I have a 4-book set I'm working on and later a biography. I donno how to really start going about things for the most part, I kind of want to get a hold of some publisher and ask them questions, or find published authors and ask for their advice and help, but I live in the middle of nowhere, so it's kinda hard.
I hope things pan out for you and I feel your pain with it.
